Announced some time ago, “hazy works for piano, electric organ and tape” have finally seen the light of day (as strange as it may sound with the word “hazy”), to “chain” our minds with their sustained tones. It is a long-awaited album carefully crafted by Portuguese composer, organist, pianist and minimalist Tiago Sousa, whose works are wholeheartedly recommended on these pages for good reason.
In “unusual sound worlds where minimalism becomes emotional, almost touching” (as he writes in the picturesque, readable notes that accompany Sousa’s first release in the “Sustained Tones” series), you can now fully immerse yourself thanks to the sub-label “Sucata Tapes”, on whose ‘bandcamp’ page you can listen to a large part of the audio material.
For all fans of minimalist aesthetics and such expression in general, whether we are talking about electronic, electro-acoustic or acoustic sound, ambient and deep drones or repetitive rhythmic patterns and subtle variations, there is a good chance that “Sustained Tones Vol. 1” will already be declared the album of the year, unless “Vol. 2” appears in 2026 and surpasses the “ace”, which would not be a miracle when we are talking about this artist.
Highest possible recommendation !!!
